The South Jersey Barons Under-17 team finished in a 1-1 draw with Inter Milan on Thursday night in an exhibition game in Clark, NJ.
Ryan Finley (Lumberton, NJ / Rancocas Valley HS), who became the youngest player to ever score a goal for the Ocean City Barons PDL team this past season, opened the scoring thirty minutes into the match. Kevin Curran (Upper Township, NJ / Ocean City HS) sent a pass down the right wing for Finley, who dribbled in and scored from a tight angle to put the hosts up 1-0.

Reading F.C. coaches lead the team against the defending Italian Serie A Under-17 champions

The coaching staff for the South Jersey Barons Under-17 team have announced the roster that will compete against the Inter Milan U-17s on Thursday, August 21.
The Barons will be coached by the PDL club’s general manager Neil Holloway along with Lee Herron and Ryan Williams from Reading Football Club of the English Championship. The Reading F.C. coaches are in South Jersey for this week’s Barons Academy Camp which wrap up on Friday.
"All of the kids are really excited," said Barons general manager Neil Holloway. "They know that an opportunity like this doesn’t come around very often. Even the coaches from Reading are excited, because they don’t often have the chance to coach against some of the big clubs from outside of England."
Barons youth to play Inter Milan U-17s
Exhibition kicks off the "Inter Village" festivities
The South Jersey Barons Under-17 team will take on one of the best youth clubs in the world when Italian Serie A powerhouse Inter Milan travels to New Jersey on August 21.
The match, which will be held at Arthur Johnson High School in Clark, NJ, is one of two exhibition games for Inter’s youth squad, which captured the 2007/08 Italian Serie A Under-17 championship. Two days later, the Italians will take on the Under-17 team from the New York Red Bulls in Newark, NJ.

In a landmark agreement, the South Jersey Barons organization, fronted by their Premier Development League (PDL) club, the Ocean City Barons, have formed a partnership with Reading Football Club of the English Premier League (EPL). As part of the agreement, which was organized through Reading’s "Football in the Community Trust" program, the "Royals" will send some of their coaches to lend their expertise and help run the Barons’ youth academy camp in August. Also, Reading FC will continue to host the Barons’ youth teams during Easter weekend, as they expose the young players to some of the top facilities at one of the elite youth development clubs in the EPL.
U15 Baron Selected to SYL National Team
Giovanni Tacconelli Selected by Scouts at ODP National Camp
South Jersey Barons midfielder Giovanni Tacconelli has been named to the Super Y-League National Select Team at the 1992 age group. Giovanni, who resides attends Lenape High School, was selected during the National SYL camp held at the Cocoa Expo Center in Florida.
One Hundred and Fifty players participated in the camp, the final roster of 18 players was selected by the Eight SYL ODP Regional Staff in attendance.
Two South Jersey USL Super-Y League teams qualify for national finals
U15 Boys and U15 Girls will compete in Tampa November 17-21
The South Jersey Barons Youth Academy’s U15 Boys Barons and U15 Girls Banshees have qualified for the Super-Y League (SYL) North American Finals to be held in Tampa, Florida from November 17-21 2006. The tournament will draw the Super-Y League’s best boys and girls teams in five age groups (U13, U14, U15, U16, and U17).
The tournament will draw 140 teams from the pinnacle of elite youth soccer in North America, and feature the top boys and girls from every region in the United States and Canada. The event is sanctioned as a National Olympic Development Program (ODP) of the United States Soccer Federation for identifying players for U.S. National Teams. Fox Sports World will provide television coverage of the event.
USL Announces Super 20 League
Barons U20 Men will play in the Mid-Atlantic Division
United Soccer Leagues announced today the creation of the USL Super-20 League, a new league designed as a graduating youth league for elite players from 17-20 as they advance beyond the traditional youth bracket to the senior professional and amateur development leagues. The league will debut this summer with teams representing all levels of US and Canadian soccer from elite youth clubs to first division professional teams in the US and Canada.
The Ocean City Barons will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Division. This division has been divided into three flights and teams positioned according to their geographic location. The Barons will play home and away fixtures against DC United (MD), Reading Rage (PA), Hockessin (DE), and the Northern Virginia Royals (VA). The winner out of each flight will advance to the Sper 20 National Finals. The Barons will begin their campaign for a national title against Reading on Wednesday May 31, 2006 away form home at Exeter High School.
